Accounts & credit cards

Checking, savings, cash and cards, in one total.

Checking, savings, cash and credit cards live side by side. A card balance counts as what you owe, so your total is what's really yours.

We'll only email you about our launch. 14 days free, no card needed.

The Accounts screen: the total balance across accounts, the cash available, and three accounts, Everyday Checking, High-Yield Savings, and a Rewards Card showing the amount owed.

Credit cards

The card is what you owe.

When you add a credit card, SetBucks asks for the amount you owe, not a balance. Purchases go out on the card, paying the bill is a transfer from checking, and the total at the top already subtracts what you owe.

Right under it, Available in cash shows the money in your checking, savings and cash accounts, so you see both numbers that matter.

The New account form with Credit card chosen as the type: the balance field reads Amount owed (USD).

Transfers

Moving money isn't spending.

Moving $500 from checking to savings changes both balances and nothing else. Transfers between your accounts never count as income or expense, so your analysis stays honest.

How it works

The details

  • Four kinds of account

Checking, savings, cash and credit card, each shown with its own icon.

  • Balances you can trust

Every balance is calculated from an opening balance and the transactions after it, never typed over.

  • Start from any date

Give each account an opening balance and the date it applies from.

  • Deactivate, don't delete

Hide an account you closed. Nothing is deleted, and you can bring it back.

  • Connected or by hand

Connect a bank to bring transactions in on their own, or keep an account fully manual.

  • Your whole household

Add every account the household uses, and see them in one total.

Questions

Good to know

How do I add a credit card?

Create an account, choose Credit card as the type, and enter the amount you owe on it today. From then on, purchases go out on the card, and the balance shows as Amount owed.

Does paying my card bill count as an expense?

No. The purchases on the card were the expenses. Paying the bill moves money from checking to the card, so it's a transfer, and it doesn't count twice.

Can I track cash?

Yes. Cash is an account type, next to checking, savings and credit card.

What happens if I close an account?

Deactivate it. It's hidden from your lists, nothing is deleted, and you can turn it back on later.

Do my balances update on their own?

Every balance is calculated from your opening balance and your transactions. With a bank connected, transactions come in on their own; without one, you add them or import a file.

One total you can trust.

When we open, add every account the household uses, and see what's really available.
